Loops de la Crème has just released Free 80’s Snares, a free collection of snare drum samples which have been hand-picked from the forthcoming commercial 80’s Snares sample library.
The free pack contains 20 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format, featuring an interesting mini set of 80’s style snare samples, claps and toms. This is just a small selection of sounds from the forthcoming commercial version of the library which will cost €12 during the intro offer (the announced regular price of the library is €24). The full version of the library will be released on October 6th and it will contain 123 raw drum samples, along with an additional set of 151 processed snare samples and 34 instrument patches for NI Kontakt.
The samples included in the freebie pack are pretty cool and most of them come very close to that 80’s style snare sound. Of course, it’s up to you and your mixing skills to make them work well in context, because huge snares like these will need loads of space in a mix in order to sound right. Although achieving the 80’s sound seems easy enough on paper, it’s rather hard to nail it perfectly in practice. A lot of it depends on the arrangement and the mix in general. Of course, having a nice set of 80’s style snare samples such as these at your disposal is a good starting point. read the entire BPB review here.
