See the new distortion-focused soft synth in action

Originally announced over the summer and due for release before the end of the year, RAW is the latest instrument from software synth icon Rob Papen.

Details about RAW are still fairly thin on the ground, but a pair of new teaser videos, posted last week on Papen’s YouTube channel, give us a brief glimpse of the instrument’s UI and a few of its capabilities. In one of the videos, Papen describes RAW as a synthesiser “with a focus on distorted sounds,” and details the EQ, Waveshaper, Distortion and Lo-Fi tools designed to help it achieve this.

Watch the full video above, in which Papen also walks through the rest of the synth’s architecture, effects and preset library. In the other video, which you can watch below, we see Papen using RAW’s Mod Matrix to control a reverb effect.

RAW is set to be released in 32/64-bit VST, AU and AXX formats. Pricing and a release date are yet to be announced.
